The third part of "Zdravko Banar" Folklore Festival, an annual gathering of folklore enthusiasts, artists, and spectators, was held once again in the historic city of Ohrid, Macedonia. The event took place from August 24th to 28th, 2023, and was a resounding success, drawing participants from different corners of the world.

We were delighted to host our special guests, the Kolomeika Siret ensemble from Suceava, Romania. Under the artistic direction of Mrs. Zirca Ianos, and with the support of her assistant Mrs. Otilia Matner, the group graced us with their unique performances that mesmerized the audience.

Spotlight on Notable Contributors

Among the approximately fifteen groups that participated, the ensemble Kolomeika Siret from Suceava, Romania, truly stole the show with their electrifying and highly acrobatic performance. The audience was captivated by these talented youngsters who danced phenomenally well. Adding to the ensemble's allure was the exquisite violin performance by their director, Mrs. Zirca Ianos, and the outstanding vocal contributions from the adult members of the group. Among them, the voice of Otilia Matner was particularly noteworthy. Some of the remarkable talents from this ensemble include: Aspazia Olar, Tudor Olar, Riana Elena, Denisa Bandas, Alexandra Amarie, Robert Andrei Suleap, Luana Popoiu, Ilinca Canciuc, Alexandru Pieszczoch, Misoanca Maria Gabriela, Bianca Popescul, Flavia Mihaela, Luana Matner, Canciuc Loredana, Alexandra Alexandrescu, Georgiana Elena, Teodor Enache, Eliza Cirsmariu, Rares Ionut { Babiuc }, Stefania Pisaltu, and Bianca Pisaltu.

Highlights of the Festival Tour Around the Old Town of Ohrid

The festival kicked off with a guided tour around the old town of Ohrid. This offered participants a unique chance to immerse themselves in the city's rich history and architectural marvels, from ancient churches to charming cobblestone streets.

Parade and Concert in Downtown Ohrid

One of the most-awaited events was the grand parade and concert in the heart of Ohrid. With a plethora of performances ranging from traditional dances to songs, the event was a true spectacle that showcased the diversity and richness of folklore traditions.

Boat Tour to St. Naum Monastery

The festival also included a magical boat tour to the Monastery of St. Naum. The journey across Ohrid Lake provided not only breathtaking views but also an opportunity for participants to learn about the historical and spiritual significance of the monastery.

Visit to Vevchani Ethno Village

The itinerary was rounded off with a visit to the ethno village of Vevchani, where participants could engage with local artisans, learn about traditional crafts, and even participate in workshops.
